Engage the Application Reader
The person reviewing STEM scholarship applications and essays is going to receive hundreds, if not thousands, of packets from hopeful students. Encourage students to be engaging and, if possible, reveal something new to scholarship officials by telling them about a story they don’t know. This doesn’t have to be an account of a highly developed invention that resolves global STEM issues. While answering application questions accurately and thoroughly is most important, students should reveal their personality and abilities in the essay portion. Share the story of a time when STEM allowed the student to solve a problem in their home or during an extra-curricular activity. Showcasing their unique experiences with STEM will allow students to stand apart and ahead of their competition.
