2. Figure Me Out

first day of school activitiesThis game should be on every math teacher’s first day of school activities must-do list. Bookwidgets Teacher Blog¬†explains this game that has students use math problems to share interesting things about themselves such as their age, number of pets, and any other quantifiable facts. Even though it is designed to share simple facts about students, the game can be adapted to any grade or difficulty level by altering the types of equations required of students.

It’s simple: have students create a poster with questions about themselves. But here’s the twist: The answers are only found by solving math problems. Let other students guess who it is while presenting the math problems to the class.

If you’ve never thought about how many months, days, hours, minutes, or seconds you’ve been alive, now would be a good time to start!
