3. Show, Don’t Tell
Instead of droning on about your course syllabus on the first day of school while your students drift in and out of consciousness, introduce your classroom to the topics they’ll be tackling this year by giving them just one clue. For example, if you’ll be tackling simple machines, present a pulley and see if students can guess what it is, along with how it fits into your course. At the end of class, have them share which topic they’re most excited to learn about in the coming year.
