2. Fight with the Mind
Students will argue and, at times, they will fight during school hours. These instances of aggression can intensify quickly. When witnessing an escalating, angry situation, take students aside and attempt to find the root of the issue, which lies in feelings of being hurt. Encourage students to describe how they each arrived at this angry place and the reasons they were offended. Use the opportunity to emphasize the importance of cultivating resiliency through developing a thick skin and using debate – not anger-fueled exchanges – to discuss differences in opinion.
