5. Chiming into Physics

For more experienced high-school students, building and also tuning a sound-making tool or musical instrument incorporates science, math, music, and manufacturing. The Alfred Solis project “About Chime” allows students to use math to create a wind chime and discover the physics that comprise sound. From sketching out an initial design to preparing the final wind chime product for display, students will learn valuable concepts in physics, complemented by additional aspects in math and music.

Educators who incorporate project-based learning into their physics classroom can increase student understanding of this tricky STEM subject through hands-on activities. Students cultivate integral real-world skills that are necessary for success throughout their academic and professional careers.
